HELP please

My romance with my early mk 8v seems nearing the end.
took it to a garage and they say it needs masses of welding.
if i describe the amount, can anyone give me a ballpark figure?

well,

on both sides the seem where the sills meet the floorpan are split all the way from front wheelarch to back.
The outer sills are rusted to buggery as too is the floorpan from the seem inwards about 4inches all the way along both sides, at one part u can put ur finger through the carpet!
the garage say they have never seen a golf so bad, they say it will need welding in new sills and about 6 inches of floor pan on either side (the full length of the sill) VERY SCARY!!

they reckon they wouldnt like to take the amount of money off me it would cost, theyre estimating about a grand due to the mass labour time it would take.

Does this sound right guys?

depending on how the car drives,you should ring hardcore and see what he says.the numbers in my sig pic,explain the ins and outs of it all an he could tell you over the phone,he might need to see some pics or the car if you can get it to him! worth a try and hes a damn good welder,and he is very well priced!

once i had a fiesta that had some welding done only had a few rusty patches and the sills were bad too cost well about £300 to put right.

Sounds as if its to far gone to be worth saving to my mind.
A grand would be about right for that amount of work. But what you have to realise is if its that bad now then soon there will be more!

So scrap it!
