Hi Folks

I'm a Gti nooob! so plse bare with me!

I've just bought a new silver GTi (3dr) from Motorpoint for 18k.

The car is an Import from NL it seems to have all the same stuff as a std UK car.

auto drive lights
rain sensing wipers
flat tyre monitor
asr
dual climate
auto dip mirror
17" Monza's
Alarm/Immobiliser

Am I missing anything?

Could also do with some help as it came with Dutch manuals!  The MotorPoint
folk say the Eng ones should arrive within 30 days so, until then,  I could do with some advice.

How do I set the Flat Tyre monitor?
How do the auto lights and wipers work?
Fuel, inside the cap it says 98 in large font and 95 in small font, so I guess 98 is prefered
but 95 is okay?

I came from a chipped 98 T4 (240PS/350m) so this car feels a bit sluggish at present but the handling is so much better. The T4
suffered from traction and understeer issues (even b4 it was chipped!)  but had  teriffic shove

Hi Amsterdam and welcome.

No doubt someone (Doc) will come along soon with all the correct advice but I can help with some of the questions:

"Am I missing anything?" - not as far as I can see in terms of standard spec - did you get a 3yr warranty?

"How do I set the Flat Tyre monitor?" - after ensuring all tyres are at the correct pressure by filling them up, just press and hold the button down until it beeps and it is set.

"How do the auto lights and wipers work?" - without looking at my car I'm not totally sure but think it is the top symbol on the light selector and the second one up on the wipers.

"Fuel, inside the cap it says 98 in large font and 95 in small font, so I guess 98 is prefered
but 95 is okay?" - correct and some people report performance increase noticable on 98. They are supposed to be better for your engine long-term as well.

In terms of the sluggish performance in comparrison to your last car, I found it similar after coming from a 250bhp Honda S2K but the sure handling more than makes up for it. I am tempted by a Morego conversion though which takes it to 250bhp to ensure I out pace my friends still with S2Ks at the next track day!

Hi there. If you can get the tyre moitor to work let me now how you did it. Try using shell V-power or tesco 99 you'll notice the difference. Happy motoring.

Warranty is 2 years, they tried to sell me a third yr but I wasn't convinced that the 300 quid was worth spending as I'm not a high miler.

Motorpoint do a 'hard sell' routine for their 'bolt ons' ie. Finance, Gap Insurance and Warranty but at the end of the day you just say no thanks.  Actually I got them to drop the PDI charges as it says they're optional on the website (the salesguy denied that until i showed him on his own PC ;-)

When I say the car feels sluggish I know thats subjective as the 0-60 time and top end are the same between the cars in std trim (7.2/148), it's just that the T4 motor is a High Pressure Turbo motor running 15psi boost (20psi chipped :-) )and that baby gives you a real kick in the back when the Turbo (eventually ;-( ) winds up.

The lack of lag in the GTi is refreshing!

The T4 also used 98 or 95, for a long time I couldn't get 98 round these parts but when I could I tried Optimax and found it paid for itself with a 1.5 - 2 mpg improvement and a smoother engine, so I'll be using the Tesco 99 in the GTi.

Does chip tuning the GTi spoil the handling?  there is such a thing as too much power in a FWD car, I'm just loving the way
the GTi handles.
