I got hold of some meguiars clay and it worked!  many thanks for the advice.  :grin:

Pleased to hear that - well worth doing this a couple of times a year to clean off paint contaminants prior to a good clean/ploish/wax.

for stubborn stains use an angle grinder - this versatile tool can do most jobs!
