Hazard Lights Don't Work

Hi There...

My hazard lights have stopped working...
No idea what it is... the indicators work, but when I press the harzard light... nothing appears on my dashboard, the repeaters don't flash and the little light behind the hazard light cuts out and the orange one doesn't come on behind it.

Any ideas how I can fix this? Is it a legal requirement? Is it a major fault?

  my brake light died last night every thing else works though. I did have lots of problems before they died. Taken it to the stealer today they say its a switch linked to the brakes. Best get it checked now the clocks have gone back

it might be the switch its self, ive seen them on ebay for cheap as chips or go to the breakers..
