hi yabbie, do you have a multi meter? the mk3 has standard connectors.

IIRC, thick brown=gnd (0V), red=ign live, yellow/black=12V live, blue=antenna/amp, brown=memory. Check this out to be sure:

On the VW loom brown/red from memory is 'key in ignition' live on a MK3, so that needs to go to the red wire on the stereo, and the red wire from the VW loom is permanent live and needs to go to the yellow wire on the stereo.
Or the other way round, it depends what the yellow & red wires do on your stereo.  I'm 80% sure yellow = live & red = ign live on a std stereo ISO connector...

Invest in a multimeter, can get em for less than £5 from ebay!

blue/grey is the feed for the dash lights, generally modern stereos dont use this, but feel free to wire it up as above.  hat you need now is a multimeter so you can check which wires are getting voltage!

I've heard that sometimes the MK3 ign switch can become worn so that the key in ignition feed stops working...

mmm well before it had that kenwood head unit it had a working alpine one that worked good but i have since fried that one   :undecided: so all i have to do is find one thats got some sort of  voltage and that might sole the problem . thanks again shall get hold of a multimeter tomorro
