« on: 30 October 2006, 00:38 »
hi all,

well its that time of year again where i have to decide whther to put my car in garage or get round to having a new non-leaking roof put on.

so i think i am going to get a new roof.

i have a 1.8gti cabriolet, can someone point me in the direction as to where i can buy a roof and where i can get it fitted, preferbly in the yorkshire area??

thanks in advance

dave.

Why dont you try these guys:

http://www.carhoodsdirect.co.uk/catalogue.php?view=category&id=20&offset=10

They have fitters nationwide.

My roof is leaking at the top of the doors so I am gonna buy a hood this week but I think I need to replace those rubber mouldings as well...!

If you need a new set of mouldings you could try these guys:

dont use carhoods northern...used them for my first hood, and were fine, needed another hood, and ive had nothing but trouble..
they scratched my paint and it took me months to get it sorted, then only got £50 for it even thou id been quoted £94, i wont reccomend them to anyone ever..
if u dont mind travelling to wales, one of the lads on here, eyeletboy, got his hood done for about 250? maybs have a word with him?..

wherabouts are you, I have a brand new hood fitted to a hood frame going, only thing that needs doing is the rear glass fitting.  It comes with complete fitting instructions as well :)
Only reason we took it off as I found a 2 year old one on ebay with a black headliner, so we swapped em over.

cheers for the replies, much appreciated.

i am based in leeds, but more than willing to travel for a decent job doing.

rubjonny - what colour is the roof you have ? i am wanting a blue vinyl one, but might be swayed if its a good roof for a good price.

I had my hood put on my a guy in Wilsden, Bradford nearly two years ago. It was £150 just for the labour and I bought the roof on top of that which was about £225, so you'll be looking at around £400 I reckon. How they get it done down in Wales for £250 I've no idea ! My roof was a mohair one by the way. If you want his number then let me know.

Where in Leeds are you ? I work in Leeds, I used to live in yeadon but I'm down in Wakefield now.
......now officially dubless.

I live in Bracknell, its a black vinyl one with a white headlining.  I'm after £100 for it :)
The hood itself is mint but the headlining is dirty and the inulation padding was bodged a little when we fitted the hood (we had no time to do a good job, the car is stored outside and was delivered with no hood at all!)
