Imports

Anyone on here bought an imported Gti? If so who did you use?

I've seen a few places with cars in stock, motorpoint, motorprovider, simple deals and allbrandsnew!

Anyone used any of the above and what was the service like?

Cheers

I picked up my new baby on Friday from Motorpoint in Glasgow; from start to finish I've been thoroughly impressed with them; they are the only "dealer" in my (admittedly limited) car buying experience that I would go back to.

When I got there on Friday, the car I'd purchased (and had shipped up from their Welsh depot) turned out to have no AC; I merely mentioned this, and they started searching for one that did; with luck there was one with the exact spec that I was looking for on site; unregistered and therefore £1k more than my 06 plate initial choice.

Within two hours they had it registered and taxed, refunded the £150 delivery cost for the original car and I was away.  For a newer plate and the full dual zone climate control, I was more than happy to pay an extra £850 or so!

In short, great service and I would definitely go back.  Two caveats though... there's now an Irish spec 06 plate with a sunroof and no AC floating about - I'd avoid it - also I'm looking for a GTi manual in English rather than Dutch!

hope this is helpful to you,

calum

Cooper,

I am in the process of importing a new Gti through a broker http://www.select-automotive.com/.

You have to do a bit more work than ordering it through Motorpoint etc but you can spec the car, you know the car is coming from a german dealer,  full UK spec and the saving over UK cars are excelent, only real differance is you only get 2 years warranty.

Depending on exchange rates Im looking at saving about £4,000

lazerblue, I'm glad you've posted as I was going to ask you for the web address for select!

They sound good and quite a few people seemed to have to used them and given decent feedback!

Cheers!

I've just looked at the Select website and the savings are very good especially on optional extras!

Am I right in saying the 'Select Automotive Price' is the final price and there is no other charges on top i.e broker fee, delivery cost etc?

Cheers

Got import from newport motorpoint.  Did it over the phone, never saw the car.  Very nervous drive up to wales not really knowing what to expect but all was fine.  Full UK spec with a couple of extra options they didn't realise was on the car (highline etc).  No issues with motorpoint apart from they weren't very accomodating with bank transfers and transfering number plates.

They register the car first though and you are second keeper on V5

More than happy with mine!!!  140 mph so far on a private road of course
