car seem's moist
« on: 29 October 2006, 16:33 »
hi all well me golf is back, i decided as it was a really nice day to give it the 'treatment' this morning, after all the pampering was done i noticed that the carpet in the rear and the front was wet, now i am not sure where this is coming from but i have had to fill the header tank up, now correct me if i am wrong but i think i have read that the heater matrix is connected to the cooling system on the mk1 so maybe the water is leaking from this in to the car?? is this possible, and if so, where is the heater matrix? Oh and any other opinions would be good??  :undecided:

Heter matrix is located in the middle of the dash board, open the bonnet and look at where the two coolant pipes go through the bulk head.  Stick you head into the passanger footwell and look up and under the center of the dash, and you will see the pipes going into the vack of the matrix, there is a little plastic rectangular cover that sits over the end of the matrix, pull this off and if it is wet here, time for a new matrix, cheep and not difficult to change.
If it is dry, have a look at the gromets where the wiring comes through the bulk head, if not maybe the windscreen seal/metal work, but the sunroof drain channels can get blocked/fall off, so they are worth a check too.

Hope this helps

cheers

Check the drain holes from the bulkhead down the inner arches too as they get blocked with leaves and stuff.

Also, do a search in this section as I'm sure there's been some posts about back footwell being wet but not the front and it was some channel that was blocked but I can't remember the outcome.
......now officially dubless.

Gibby that was me! (of course!) I think the cause was the fact that I had a few holes going through the bulkhead. When I had the engine done i had the bulkhead and engine bay sealed and painted so no more leaks or wet rear footwell (for now anyway). Hope this helps toofunky
