I'm looking to buy a TDI and was wondering if anyone on here bothered with them or are you all petrol heads? :)

I'm mainly a petrol head but after driving a TDI mk4 I would definatly have one. Good power and amazing mileage return. Best diesel I have ever driven.  :)

I'm a PD150 owner, and can honestly say that its one of the quickest cars I have ever had.

I've never been a fan of the 0-60 bench mark, as I don't think it represents real world driving. If you look at the in-gear benchmarks (a much better indication of how fast car is) you'll see that the TDi models are seriously rapid.

Read any of the car mags and they will tell you the PD150 is the quickest of the GTi models. The PD130 is as quick (if not quicker) than a 150bhp petrol turbo.

Give one a test drive back to back against a petrol model and you'll see what I mean. All that and considerably better economy too!!!

Last time I had my car in for service I had a 150 TDI as a loaner. I almost didn't want to give it back. lol. Lot's of nuts it does. I really like my 16v mk2 but I thought about buying one pretty hard. Last diesel I had was an 85 Jetta turbo diesel. it didn't run anything like the new ones do. :)

I have a Pd 130. It?s a great car and I would recommend anyone test drive one if they are thinking of a mk4 golf. Doesn?t have the power from standing start really but when you are doing 40 its pickup is great. I haven?t really pushed it yet though as I?m still running it in. I went to the motor show at the NEC today and they had one there that had more torque than a Ferrari 360!! Best diesel I have driven without doubt.
