Question about lowering

Been thinking about lowering my Golf and was wondering what coilovers are ?
Whats the best to use i.e spax etc ?

coilovers are adjustable macpherson struts.

I've read that Bilstein PSS9's are really good but expensive and Koni's seem to get good press.

Coil overs are a spring and strut package in a single unit. They offer a considerable amount more adjustment than a conventional spring and damper set up.

In terms of the effect it has, its nothing short of incredible.

I have a buddy running a Skoda Octavia (essentially the same chassis set up as the Mk4) and it is without doubt the best handling front wheel drive car I have ever driven.

Do it, you won't regret it!

I have Koni Coilovers on my Mk4 GTi and they really are good, though one problem I have hit it the front ARB is now catching the driveshaft - this would happen with any method of lowering if you go too far down. Generally the Golf Mk4 only likes to be lowered up to 45mm, after that there's a good chance of the front ARB coming into contact with the driveshaft.
There is a was around it which involves changing the ARB for an uprated one with larger hoops at either end allowing the car to go much lower without contact.
