Touch up or respray?
« on: 27 October 2006, 09:31 »
Some kind soul has thought I have too much paint on my drivers door so has removed some of it for me.  I now have a 12 inch scratch which is pretty much down to the metal across the door.  Can I get this touched up or will it be a whole door respray?  Its on a MK2 Oak Green if that helps.

Why do people have to be such mindless idiots?

personally i would go for a full door re-spray the greens a dodgy colour to touch up, and have you got the time to do it.
you could touch it up try it and see.

but if you do touch it up leave it to dry for a couple of days the at the lacquer it then leave that for a week or so.

get some G3 polish on it  thats what i used when i did my rust and see how it looks

make sure its not a damp day or a cold one above 15 degrees c or above

hope this helps

Yup there are some tw@ts out there that's for sure.

I'd go for a respray, but depending on where the scratch is, the bodyshop may have to go across to another panel to blend it in correctly. If they can touch it up well for you then try that, but otherwise it's probably a respray.
......now officially dubless.

do not respray the whole door!

Its 15+ year old paint at the end of the day. The newly sprayed door will look worse!

Some companies like 'chips away' can colour match the paint with touchups but its not cheap.
