GTi conversion for mint '84 Golf?
« on: 26 October 2006, 20:33 »
I've recently come into posession of a 1984 Golf. It's white bodywork is totally free from rust and 1.3 engine runs sweet as a nut.

It has 53,000 miles on the clock and I bought it from a retired policeman who'd had it from new and kept it garaged thorughout. It even came with the original receipt!!!

It seems a shame to have such a magnificent specimen truck around for the rest of it's days at the kind of speeds it's poor old 1.3 is capable of producing.

I'd love to try and turn it into an early MK2 GTi spec. I'd like to keep the outside as it is. It has this amazing timewarped thing going on...

Can anyone give me any pointers on where I could find info on a GTi conversion kit (if one exists???)
I don't want to just replace the engine with an old scrapped GTi engine. I'd like to do the whole car (suspension, gearbox etc.)
I have a friend who runs a back street garage that I can get to do the work for sensible prices.
Any Ideas???
Ed.

Have a look in the garage section as there's some sticky threads about engine conversions, mainly 20vT though I think. I think the main issue with starting with a carb model is that it's not as easy to convert to injection as you need to change fuel lines and other bits and bobs from what I hear.
......now officially dubless.
