If the guy hasn't put it through his books your evidence could put him in big trouble.

When my local garage do stuff for cash i ask them just to write a list on a blank piece of paper with the prices on for my records, that way they don't have to worry about a false invoice emblazoned with their logo and details. Could be why they are holding back?

If there was never any agreement that they were to do it for cash to get you a better price then i would screw them over as it sounds like they were just trying to make more profit. Trading standards would work and they pass it over to the VAT man if necessary.

Do you have a contract that states what will be done and the price that will be paid for the listed work ? If not it can be difficult to take a legal route in cases like this but the CAB is a good place to start and I would try the Law center and Trading standards as well.

Don't have a contract, but neither was it agreed that if I paid cash I would get it cheaper. UPDATE: Just got my dad to ring (as he can be quite scary on the phone when he's cross) he tried to fob him off by saying he'd already done me an invoice - yeah some invoice - all it says is Full engine rebuild then the price! I want listed parts! Then he told  my dad his PC was broken! (last week he told me he had my invoice and was going to post it out!) My dad said well we'll give you a few days and see what happens. So lets see...

I'm so f*cked off as according to my vw specialist it sounds like they've done a sh!t job and completely ripped me off.

a hug would be good but a mk1 that works for at least a few months would be better!

If the job they did is that bad it might be worth seeing if you can find any other customers who have had a similar experience to you so it wont just end up your word against his and make notes of all the calls you make and what was said and by who. I think its important that you stay persistant and continue to contact the person that you feel ripped you off then at least he'll realize you wont go away until the situation is resolved to your satisfaction.
