ANYONE HAD A MK4 STOLEN?
« on: 24 October 2006, 22:45 »
Just wondering how good the security is on a 1.8T.  Obviously easy to break into, as any car with windows is.  How easy is it to steal though? Anyone had one stolen? Should I be upgrading the factory fitted alarm?   Cheers guys!

never had my old one touched or stolen, the standard vw system (alarm/immobiliser) is thatcham cat 1 rated, so to be honest theres no point upgrading it to an aftermarket (unless you want remote starting/paging systems etc)as your gonna be splashing out and i doubt it would reduce insurance costs etc, just make sure the car is insured in case it ever does go missing, there are scum bags every where that will put your window through for 50p youve left on your dash so nothing is safe...

ive never herd a mrk4 golf been stolen *touchwood* would have 4th it was too hard, i has thinking about the same thing with my car the other day, the only thing i think that would be possible is opening all the doors and boot thru the remote on the drivers side, but actully being able to take it away....dont think they would, but if the cars alarmed there shouldnt be no problems!

Spoken to a mate of mine who works in VW main dealer. He reckons the glass is toughened which make it a little more tricky to break. Also the alarm/immobiliser is good, most mk4's are stolen with keys (burglary/ nick keys etc)

So if you paranoid put your keys under your pillow along with a baseball bat

Hard to nick, apparently, but fairly easy to get into, I'm afraid.  A bit of jiggery-pokery with the door lock, & the windows come sliding down!
