Ok I'm in a position to import a G60 from Germany and wanted to know how or easy is the DVLA going to let me do this?
I've heard things like becuase it's left hand drive the speedometer needs to read MPH also.
Any practical advice form anyone who has done this before will be appreciated.
Will there be tax or VAT points I need to know as its a secondhand car?
Plates, insurance, knowledge tips would be of help.
Cheers in advance guys & girls!

I know you will need to insure and get the vehicle MOT'd before you can get it UK registered. With regard to the insurance, we can cover a non uk registered vehicle on a chassis number while you get it registered but only for a limited period of time (usually 14days) while you are registering it after which you must provide a reg or they will cancel the policy (apart from any special circumstances). As far as i was aware though it is not legal to drive a car on uk roads without a number plate, so not sure how you go about taking it to and from the mot? Perhaps check that one with the DVLA?

Hope that helps a little.....

As far as  I know you can drive an imported car, unregestered on the road (covered by the insurance on the chassis number) to a MOT garage a long as you booked the car up before you leave!!

OK need some more advice I found the Rallye one owner from Italy first registration 1989 F plate but in Italy. Currently no tax or license plate been off the road since 2004. Now the tricky part I want to drive it back from Italy through France back into UK.

OK so can I get a plate based upon Chassis number and Engine number and take it over there with me?
Insurance is OK as you guys have told me based upon Chassis number!
Road tax what do I do about road tax?
Help I'm so close getting the "Holy Grail"

You can get road tax at the same time as you register it. DVLA may want to inspect it and you'll have to go to a DVLA local office rather than a post office to get it all done.

You mentioned other taxes. There's no customs duty as it's coming from within the EU, car tax (as opposed to VED) was scrapped about 10 years ago and, as long it is VAT paid in the country you buy it from (which it will be unless it's a diplomatic car or something) there won't be any VAT either.
