hi guys and gals i just purchased a mk4 gti turbo its a 1.8 version 150 bhp,and i love driving it.I was parked up today and had my enigne running whilst chattin to my freind in the car and i herd a noise which came and suddenly went after every 5 mins or so it comes and goes, sounds abit like gears crunching,everythign else seems to be fine and drives beautifully shud i be worried
p.s the noise also makes the lights dim a little and similar noise also happens when i turn the key to start car everytime

air con system, will notice o n idle as unit is using the electric fan more as the car is not moving. peugeots are a lot noisier than vw's, my mates new 307cc sounds like atractor when the air con clicks on

havent got such luxuries on mine!!! lol, (lighter and less to go wrong though!!!!), er maybe what ant has said well i hope!!! if sounds really bad check you aint got nowt in your radiator fan!! mine was making a noise last month and from some where a walkers crisp bag had got in the engine bay in between the fan and rad!!! made a right racket!! (that bloody gary liniker gets every where!!!) lol

Might be worth checking the alternator and associated pulley.

yeah could be a bearing gone in alternator?? but the way you say comes on/off it sound like rad fan, maybe bearing in that on its way out???
