four star petrol
« on: 08 January 2004, 16:01 »
anyone noticed a shortage of LRP four star? over christmas I drove to my parents in cornwall and couldn't find any between bournemouth and liskeard. stopped at a dozen stations and no four star for the mk1. not even the motorway services at exeter!! had to buy super unleaded instead. got some in liskeard but back in sunny bournemouth every petrol station sells it at every pump!
Is there a four star black spot near you??

Why do you need 4 star, or LRP as its now called?
K-jet engines don't like it. LRP is super unleaded with an additive.
Use optimax, its the bollox.

YEP, for some reason i just assumed LRP would be the one to go for but scraping around on the forum seems to indicate optimax is the juice for me!!! right, just need to find my nearest shell garage then!

I think the general feeling of petrol companies is to move away from 4 star, and stop selling it. So they are utilising the pumps for more popular fuels.
But they probably have such an abundance in Bournemouth, 'cos its full of OAPs driving their Austin Maxis, and Ford Cortinas  ;)
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

How many cars do you see on the road from the 80's?  I reckon there's just not enough demand from Golf MK1/2, Merc and BMW drivers in most areas to warrant LRP, especially since they'll run on unleaded.
