« on: 17 October 2006, 18:45 »
Hi can any one help, got a 96 VR6 and have replaced the rear calipers from EUROPARTS, according to their website non VR6 calipers are marked as 38 on the caliper body, which my exchange ones are too?? the old calipers have been exchanged, so can t check, they fit ok, and guy at EUROPARTS couldnt tell me the differences between standard small engine calipers compared to VR6 are there any??
thanks Pete :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:

As far as i know all mk3 golf's non gti/vr6 had drums on the rear.
8v/16v/vr6 have same calipers fitted to the back, i think the front brakes are the same as well.

The VR6 and later GTI's had larger front disks. 280mm.

1995 onwards had 288mm discs on the front, previous to that they were 280mm.

very early MK3s had MK2 calipers at the rear, later models had a new design with an internal handbrake spring.  Basically, if they have a spring on the outside they're the older MK2 crap design ;)
