If its a pre-mid 89 digi then according to the haynes manual there is a lift pump in the fuel tank with the gauge sender. To access it i think you need to lift the carpet and take it out from the top there. I'm going to have a look at mine over the next couple of days and check all the wires.

It does say from mid 89 onwards certain models had a single fuel pump, although doesn't say what models!

Digi's do indeed have a lift pump in the tank. It's under the black plastic circle under the boot carpet.  Don't know how to remove it but i'm sure its easy!

All MK2 GTIs have a lift pump & a main pump, the only models that didn't were the G60 variants, which just have a single main pump in the tank.

is it ever right hand bend or just when you boot it????????
i am wondering if you are starving the head of oil which is a common problem when going fats round corners. if it is only when you are going fast then iether slowdown or fit a windage tray between your sump and your block. g werks do a good one for 30 quid or awsome do the same one for 45. look on there web sites.

regards
jase

does it worst when on the gas thru the bend. was fine when i brought it but the problem appeared after changing cam belt oil plugs etc.

surely if there was oil starvation it would do it thru left handers too??
i do need to fit or clean the gause filter in the sump as i get a warning buzzer when REALLY turning tight in right handers.

As well as doin this going to chuck some money at the ignition system ie new cap rotor arm and HT leads. just to eliminate and issue here as the not a huge amount of money.
btw any recommendations  for HT leads was just goin to get a set from GSF
