mk2 golf thermostat.

hi guys.

trying to change a stat on a mk2 golf . abit its a 1.6 cl 4+E ... my gti is in bits. 

i cant see it.

the 2 housings that look like they might possibly have a stat in  one of them.. ive taken apart and theres no stat and no room for the stat to fit in there.

but looking at the other housing on the side of the block it doesn't look big enough either  ( big enough for the stat i bought .. from halfords..  ( i know i know... halfords but its 3pm on a sunday! _ ... i checked and double checked the coding . so it must be the correct stat unless they boxed it up wrong... a real possibility.

where is the stat located?

the stat is located in the u bend type bit that comes out the water pump which is the left hand side of the block down the bottom sort of under the alternator, its driven by a vee belt so has a pulley on the pump, the stat is in one of the pipes on the other side
