Im not sure how low u can go with 17"s on. But with regards to the suspension rember you will always get what you pay for!!! And a cherap set  of shocks and springs may be more hastle than there worthy. Perhaps put the 17"s on and save for coilovers or koni/spax set of uprated shockers!!

Im sure theres a few people who have said that 17s with a 40 mil drop all round looks very good. Lowering it more at the front will make the back end seem too high in my opinion.

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

well my mk3 golf has 17's on and is sat on 85mm on front and back and i'm having no problem, i think it depends on where you live though if you live in an area full of pot holes then better to play it safe.

stay good at 40mm then if you have a car full it wont rub it's arse off but when your parked up empty it wont look like it's slammed or anything. It's definatly worth investing in uprated shocks and springs standard shocks will give up and you will have to go and do the job again so do the job once with the right kit!

well just to update you guys, we won some used Eibachs off ebay with Boge Turbo and Monroe shocks.  We were going to go for the 60/40 but after your advice decided to play it safe.  The springs have some rust on the coils, is this anything to worry about?  Otherwise seem fine.

Going to try and get them fitted this weekend...so around 35mm drop with 17s should be ok i suppose..

I run 215 40 17" with a 40 mm drop and get a slight rub on the rear when peeps are in the back or i hit a nasty bump. Strangely i only get the tyre rub on one side(pasenger) God only knows why :undecided: It was a lot worse before i replaced the rear beam bushes.

Oh., and my shocks are Boge turbo's  Pretty harsh ride but superb on the twisty's

i think you might be running a slightly wide tyre - are your wheels 8' wide?

You're better off with 205's if they fit from what i've read...

just another update, got the Eibachs fitted today...car's riding much lower and we're very impressed with the ride quality, you wouldn't know it's been lowered, until you chuck it round a bend...

Wheels go on tomorrow..will get pics up once it's spit and polished..
