Water Temp

I have a jetta GTI 8v. The needle never gets above the white section on the temp gauge unless u leave it ticking over for about 20 mins. As soon as u start driving it drops back down to the white section. The heaters arnt hot just warm. The fan works so i am assuming the thermostats gone and is stuck open. Can anyone back me up on this?
?

if you have a driver put an 8v cam in it, makes a bit of a difference!

basically the more air and fuel in the stronger the burn so more power, also if the exhaust gases etc have a smooth path in and out then more fuel and air can get in/out quicker. try looking at engines on
