mk3 8v into mk2 ?
« on: 11 October 2006, 21:04 »
Hi guys,
My mate has just brought a mk3 golf 2liter 8v bottom end that he intends to fit in his mk2, What does he need to do to make it fit ?
I'd be very grateful of any help.
Tim.

First thing to a search as there is lots of info about that swap on here.

Mainly i think the only thing you need to do is use the Mk2 dizzy on the Mk3 block. TSR used to make an adaptor but now they are bust i'm not sure how you get round that problem.

A few months ago i think. There are threads on here and on ClubGti that go into it in depth.

If its a Digi, a 2e botrtom end will go straight on, and work.  The 2e dizzy is compatible with digifant injection.  If its an ADY lump, you need a 2e Dizzy as the ADY dizzy uses a different pulse system, and you cant twist it to set the timing either.

As yours is K-Jet, you'll have to fit your old K-Jet dizzy.  To do this you'll need an adaptor, and you have to swap the gear off the MK3 Dizzy onto it.

Yeah you will, basically the problem is the MK3 dizzy is bigger than the MK2 item, so you have to get a reducer made up for it.  Since yours is a carby you'll need to use your old Dizzy to make it work.

The adaptor will be like a ring with a lip to hold it in the hole on the block, and a recess so that the MK2 dizzy sits at the right height :)

Is there anyone that makes the adaptor ring other than TSR ?
