I've asked them to give it a full waxoyl for the winter,

You big softy northener!!! Get yourself a saucepan, a paintbrush and a can of black waxoyl. Heat some up on your cooker and get stuck in. I found the brush method best to get a controlled even coat over the whole underside and you can brush it on nice and thick in the places that matter. Of course the missus wasn't too happy when I managed to get black waxoyl all up the wall in the kitchen!!!
It takes quite a few hours to make a really nice job of a complete waxoyl and a garage are gonna charge a fortune unless they rush it.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

Waxoil is just what it says wax and oil and its used a treatment to prevent the formation and/or spread of rust, most people use it under the car and inside the doors and back panels ect. When I've used it I've bought the gallon tins and put it in a bucket of boiling hot water to get it as thin as possible which makes it a lot easier to work with, then its just a case of spraying or brushing it on which ever part of the car you want it and when it cools down it sets.

The garage normally charge me about £50 to waxoil the whole lot. I spend that much money with them that for the sake of buying some and getting a messy kitchen and then getting my hands dirty I'll just get them to do it while it's down there. I've worked in an office for too long.

and then getting my hands dirty

And anything else that is within a mile of the stuff, I usually end up covered head to toe in the stuff. Even my cat strolled past while I was doing the van and ended up with a bit of rust protection!!!

£50 sounds like a fair price Gibby, it's definately not a nice job.

Well, got my Rallye back from the garage now, I can't say I've missed the fuel bills, but I certainly missed the lady in red. It's good to have her back.

When it was in the garage I had the wheel bearings checked over but no problem found, I've had the small exhaust blow welded up, it was a tiny hole apparently,I had the alternator fixed, a good coating of waxoil everywhere and a new sunroof seal put on as it was leaking.
