Escort Vs Mk2 16 valve
« on: 10 October 2006, 22:50 »
Hi all

Having a massive debate on anova forum about quarter mile.

What are the chances of a Mk2 16valve Gti against a Mk6 Escort running a 2litre zetec engine which is 130odd bhp standard?

I thought the valver would beat it if not rape it?

Discuss !!

I'd say the valver - lighter car with about the same power. I suspect it'll get better traction as well, but then again it all depends on the driver...

It would be very close, but I reckon the valver might just pip it, but I guess we're all going to say that.

Find out the correct HP and weight of both cars and then put the info into this site that mk1mad-j posted up the other day. http://www.torquecars.co.uk/Tuning/quarter_mile_time.php Unless done for real on a decent timed 1/4 mile (Santa Pod obviously springs to mind) and assuming the calculation on the site is correct then that's as good an end to the argument that you're going to get.

The escort in question is 140bhp and weighs 1000kg stripped out i would still go with the golf as its lighter anyway and thats before you strip anything out of it surely its the case of a lighter car and 140bhp, escort may give it a fite but i cant see it beating it tbh

I would say the Golf would do the Escort but a lot would depend on the gearing...if the Escorts gearing is almost the same then it may be close. I remember seeing an RS2000 go up the strip the same day as me in my Valver and it was nearly a second slower.

I do know that a standard RS Turbo has 130bhp and cant touch a Valver (even with a knackered exhaust), I guess the newer Fords can't be much better
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!
