I've got a '91 GTi with 164k on the clock. But it's averaging about 37-38mpg, uses little oil, is 100% reliable, sounds smooth, idles nicely etc. Basically it's been very well maintained engine wise, religiously well serviced and had a full swap of all engine gaskets and surfaces skimmed etc about 7k ago. It's doing about 60miles per day and is yet to even so much as stutter once - fingers crossed. Shame the previous owner f**ked with the suspension...

Like others have said, assuming the car has been well looked after and not skimped on then I can't see any reason to worry about millage if it's structurally sound etc.

you can buy cars with to little mileage aswell lol if they done lots of sitting around etc then more can go wrong with them than the same car with higher mileage. this is because they sit around a lot and all the oil drains completely out of the block then they start dry and cause more damage than ones used regularly, also they dont get used for long journeys to get nice and warm, or they do little town journeys which lso isnt that good for them

i think it depends on the age of the car as well as the millage for me, i wouldnt buy a two year old car with 100k on it! but i would if it was say a G reg
