Reccommended Reading?
« on: 09 October 2006, 22:02 »
Hi! What's the best service type manual for these cars? Haynes hardly did a GTI specific manual? Can't really find much on amazon, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

From what I have discovered I don't think there is a specific GTI manual.

I've been told that the Haynes Manual called the Owners Workshop Manual (Green cover) is the better resource to have then the Haynes Service manual (Red cover)- which doesn't have as much info.

The other publication is the Bentley Service Manual, which is written for US models - which although is not totally relevant to us, still does have some useful and relevant info.

The Bentley Manual (grey cover, from amazon us) is fantastic compared to the Haynes. Lots more detail and no 'missing' bolts!

Some things you have to reverse and i am not sure about some of the volumes so it helps to pick up a second hand haynes off ebay as extra reference.

Cool, I actually saw in the other section that there was an online Bentley manual that's not online anymore - I should be able to host it if someone emails it to me - provided the traffic's not too bad. There was one guy that seems to have it, but I can't figure out how to PM..

I have the online version of the Bentley Manual on my computer here.

If you can tell me where you want it I can zip it up and put it somewhere for you.

It comes in at a heafty 43mb zip file though.

Wow that's big! Here's where I saw it: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=20498.0, according to that it's just over 17Mb?

Yeah, I think it was me who said that it was 17mb.

I've just checked the file and it looks like I'd managed to put a zip file inside a zip file.

The real size is 20mb.
