Fuel consumption Mk3 8v

I'm running a '96 Mk 3 8v Anniversary with around 55k on the clock.  I do around 150 miles a week, about half of which are motorway miles.  I'm getting 300 miles out of a full tank, which equates to around 25 mpg.  This seems excessive to me. Is it?   Sensible driiving too. (Honest! I'm trying my best to get more for my money!)

hi, i have a 1992 8v, i do about the same sort of driving, on the computer it says i average about 28mpg.
city driving i get about 21mpg and dual carriageway 70ish- 38+mpg; 80ish - 32mpg.

It is a bit low if you are taking it easy. Check the air filter isn't dirty or clogged up and if thats ok it's worth getting the ignition timing checked.

round town  i manage about 20-23, thats a 3 mile journey (av @15mph) stop/start.

on the motorway i do 40+ at 70mph and @37-38 at 80.

At 80 - 90 on motorway mine gives approx 29mpg.

Overall around 32mpg.

Thats a 16v thats driven hard!!!!!!

So yes mate your consuption is on the high side.

City driving approx 20-28

Overall over 400miles ive done 36.6mpg

Thats a mk3 16v, not driven especially careful. I was really suprised at how good it was on fuel. If u kane it to 7000rpm you can watch the fuel go down though!!

The filter's only a few thousand miles old, so i'll get the timing checked out, as i've also noticed a very slight flat spot around 3,500 rpm. Cheers!

Kin ell, i only get around 220 miles out of my 8v before im in the red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The most ive ever managed to get in the tank is 48l for some reason even though its a 55l tank??!!?  The MFA tells me im getting around 20 to 23 round town(short jurneys, it does get better on longer town runs) and up to 40+ on a long run but why do i only manage around 220 miles from one tank full??

my one get 20mpg city driving on petrol and 19mpg on LPG when it`s running as the last couple of weeks it`s just repairing one thing after another.

my old p reg 8v around town was 35mpg and i had 45mpg on motorway at 70mph,
im getting 32mpg on my 16v around town and 41 mpg on long run ,
so that seems rather low for your 8v i would give it a good service if i were you.
