03 civic type r.... vrs....
« on: 07 October 2006, 20:55 »
well, a lad at my work got him self a car as above last week (some fancy £300 induction kit and some swanky loud as hell jap stainless system), hes been on about how quick it is and on friday night he took me for a ride, then let me drive it for about 5 miles, nice ride, shat hot brakes and handeling, and yes i gave it full beans, tbh it felt rather slow (compared with the vr6) till the vtec kicked in at around 5700 rpm.. was amazing sound when it did and yeah it went some then, and it was ready in the vtec zone when you shifted up, im not normally one to knock others cars as it was quick and they are quick but it didnt 'feel' quick if you know what i mean, i got in the vr6 today and let it warm up and its running sweet as of late and thought id go for a thrap, and it felt alot 'quicker' probably not in real terms or on paper... anyways we seem to have talked ourselves into a little drag race next friday at lunchtime (night shift).. so it gives me a week nearly to sort out my 3rd gear selection as its a bit sloppy at the mo and then take the contents of my boot out.. (trolly jack, spare wheel, two tool boxes and stuff..i keep these in there till ive sussed reliablility of me new hack.. lol) got a nice set of dual carrigeway about 1/2 mile long with a traffic light start... dont think there will be much in it to be honest.. i do have rather large nads and arent scared of killing my vr6 for a duel, would be nice if i can get to the set point before him but if i dont i aint fussed.. if i do... there will be some serious tea break banter in the canteen how a £510 ebay bargin vr6 munched a £9k civic type r.... heres hopin.....

how have any of you lot faired having a play with these rice rockets??

my mate has a toyota corrolla t sport thing that is pretty lairy but i know wat u mean it some how doesnt feel 'connected' if u know wat i mean, its weird, i quite rapid tho! reckon u will give him a run for his money even if u dont win, i predict u will beat him off the lights and hold him well for the distance but that engine is gonna be kicking in by halfway thru tho u might have a battle on ur hands lol but do it blow up the vr n record the race! put the vid on here!

i agree , sometimes newer cars just dont feel with you , maybe its cause of the added weight , airbags , sound deadening , ect ect

Crikey, have you seen the inside of a Type-r, they have nothing in them like that, only if your lucky the weight of the A/C button might slow it down.

The Type-r is a fast car, no doubt, but I think alot of the time people are drawn into the fact that if it's loud, then it's quick. My 03 Type-r (which is long gone) was definately fast, but it handled like a pig, so therefore it was only good in the dry. My Mk4 Anni is a hell of a lot heavier, but still 'feels' on a par, and that's after the Type-r was tweaked, and my Mk3 VR isn't as quick as the Mk4, or at least doesn't 'feel' as quick.

by the way the lad who has the type r is a top lad and not your usual 'nobber' he was gonna get a 1.6 new shape astra froma 1.6e mk4 golf... and i said 'why'?? pay a bit more on insurance and get a car thats quick and you like the look of, i said how about a type r (as peeps get annoyed at my work with constant ' you want a vw mate' comments) so hes happy as punch i pushed him to get one...

think i might have to get one of the lads from work with my camcorder to video the start and the main stretch from the path.... talks in progress

i have 13 year old 'mustard white' paint with a tinge of 'rust flake' here and there, i have really teeny 15" wheels, and a standard exhaust with plenty of oxidised coating......

hopefully ill fall into the ' some nutty 32 year old driving a shed on wheels ' catagorey

shed yes... but she can move some to er.... well about 69 mph.. then you have to change from 2nd to 3rd.. so you can lose a minute there.... lol... hehe
