MK4 V6 4 Motion Toothed Belt
« on: 06 October 2006, 10:54 »
Hello,

Just got a W Reg V6 4 Motion Golf GTI and I love it. It has a full dealer service history and currently has 62k on the clock.

Couple of questions, and apologies for being such a dullard, but I have a question reference Cam Belts.

Does the 2.8 V6 4 Motion have a Cam belt?

I see from the Service History Book it talks about a Toothed Belt, is this the same thing?

Secondly, it looks like mine has never been changed. Does it need to be changed, tensioned etc?

Any help and advice would be appreicated.

Cheers

G

I'm pretty certain that the V6 is chain driven and therefore doesn't need any maintenance.

Could be wrong though  :undecided:

Thanks for reply, just checked with a Service Dealer. it deffo has a chain rather than a belt and acorrding to them it never needs changing.

Is this true?

What is the Toothed Belt then?

Cheers

sounds about right.  VW used chains in the VR6 in the MK3.  Chains are starting to be used more regulalry as they are much tougher and also there are the added benefits of reduced costs for the customer in that they don't have to be changed

the cam belt has teeth on it
