Iv had my Golf for a year now but about 2 months ago I noticed it would drip a small amount of oil on my drive. Its been to a local mechanic and he say’s its coming from the turbo. Its dripping down from the pipe connecting the turbo to the intercooler. He said he didn’t want to replace the turbo as it seemed fine, there is no noise/smoke/powerloss – its just loosing a bit of oil.

Dose anyone know what the problem could be? Do I need a new turbo, or is it something else?

ItÂ’s a 2001 modal with 70,000 on the clock with full service history .

Leaking from where you say shouldn't be a problem. It is quite common for oil to collect in the intercooler due to the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and crankcase breathing. However, the fact that oil is able to leak out may mean that you have a boost pressure leak. I'd check all your clamps/clips and hoses for leaks.

I'll see if I can find some more info for you...........

This is TDI but relevant and reassuring for you, I hope:-

- It is NORMAL for a small amount of oil to get into the air intake system through the CCV (crankcase vent) hose, which then contaminates the turbo compressor and all intercooler pipes including the intercooler itself, and continues on to contaminate the intake manifold.
CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY THAT OIL FOUND IN THE INTAKE SYSTEM IS *ALL* COMING FROM THE CRANKCASE VENT BEFORE CONDEMNING THE TURBOCHARGER!!!!
