Sorry Need Some Advice Again...
« on: 02 October 2006, 16:46 »

Sorry dudes need your views again as i am cr@p at making decisions!

Decided that my car needs a respray as the respray done 2 years ago has deteriorated quite badly. Laquer now looks like it has a layer of tree sap on it, paint is bubbling, some rust coming through and someone has keyed my bonnet

This golf of mine has already had 7k spent on it by the previous owner and 3k by me, so that's 10k  How much!!?? And still it isn't anywhere near show standard which it should with that sort of money spent on it!

Gearbox needs attention, some TLC to the engine and interior needed but not much.

To get the car sprayed in the same colour it is now with all black plastic colour coded i've been quoted £1,500 which seems fair to me? To get a complete colour change it will set me back around £2,700

Do i splash out yet again on this car or just sell it and start again??

:undecided: :undecided: :undecided: :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:

Thanks in advance dudes!

Ill give you a hand, I did two of my arches myself after loosing them. Richgit taught me the process when he did mine.

Theres two ways of doing it. One is using a very fine filler to leave a smooth surface (the same way people smooth interiour trim) but thats for the boy racers. The classic way is good old fasioned Elbow Grease (or a power sander in my case) and smooth it all down. Takes about  two hours to sand down a arch by hand and about an hour with the power sander as you still have to do some bits manualy.

If you can get it really smooth then Bodymaster should be able to pick it up from there. There usally pretty adaptible so i guess they might nock a couple of hundred off if you ask nicly. The advantage of doing it this way is the bumpers keep there flexibility. I had sombody reverse into my bumper and all it did was slightly wrinkle the paint. If you had used filler it would of cracked the filler off. I was able to T-cut out most of the wringles, If the filler was f**ked your looking at a whole new smoothdown and fill job before re-painting the whole bumper.

Also, Im 90% sure i can get you a full re-spray for a thousend at Ice n Styling provided you donot want a colour change. You might need to pay for the paint ontop of that. However the price might change slightly if its a matalic. I can check for you anytime as im good friends with the owner and all the staff. There standard charge is around a grand for a same colour and 1,400 for a colour change. Not sure how much smoothing would be ontop of that however there pretty dam competitive.

Just talking to them now. They cant really give quotes without seeing the car so ive given them GBs quotes and the car (they Know Mk2s very well as mines always in there) and they will let me know if they can guarentee to beat GBs quote or not.
