Service interval/Oil change reset on dash
« on: 10 June 2003, 13:27 »
I have a Mk3 8V GTi, and i just recently changed the oil because it flashed on my milage display(and it was due one anyway).  My question is, does anyone know how to reset the oil change and the service interval without taking it to the main stealer.  I beleave it doesn't harm the car in any way, but its one of those things that you have to correct and make your life happy again.

Cheers

It is possible without going to the dealer. Without checking Haynes manual not 100% but will check tonight and get back to you if no one beats me to it. Can just about remember if you turn the ignition to off or on and then use the button by the mileage display to change between the various service indicators and when you get to the one you want to reset you use the clock adjustment buttons and hold one in for a couple of seconds until the display just shows lines. Will get back to you later, or just have a play as there is nothing you can mess up

As per the good old Haynes manual:.....

Turn the ignition on and press and hold in the button on the left of the instrument panel (below mileage). Keeping the button depressed switch off the ignition and release the button. The word 'OEL' should be shown. By depressing the left hand button again the display will change to 'IN 01' and then 'IN 02'. Set the display to the relevant service that has been performed, then depress the clock adjustment button briefly until '----' is displayed; this indicates service interval has been reset. Repeat procedure for all relevant service display intervals.

Once the resetting procedure is complete switch on ignition and check that 'IN 00' is shown on display...job done!!!

Hope this helps. :)

Anyone else got any MFA tips?

1. Turn the ignition on
2. Press and hold the trip reset button whilst;
3. Turn ignition off and on again
4 release the trip reset button.

You now have acces to the test mode on the clock.

Scroll through the functions by pressing the trip reset button.

I'm not sure exactly what they all are,but one is a digital rev counter, which is quite good.  A bit slow to react though.
