Hey guys picked up my golf gti yesterday, what a car!  Problem with the lights though, I cant seem to switch them off, even when it is set to '0'.  They only go off when you turn the ignition off.  Mine is an import, does that make a difference or is there a problem with my car?  The manual says something about daylight driving lights in position '0' but I don't want to be driving around in bright sunshine with my lights on.  Even in AHC setting they're on all the time.  Any help would be appreciated!

I believe the lights come on when it's raining (wipers on) and also when you go over a certain speed.  Which is about 90.  You can adjust how long they stay on by going via your highline computer (if you have one).  Not sure if this helps.  Mine an import but got no problems with it!!!

Is the car an import? Mine was had exactly the same problem, could only get them down to sidelights, took it to the local stealer and he set it up for UK spec, cost £75

this may sound rather strange, but I was in Canada recently and by law they have their front headlights on all the time (day light running lights), I think they same applies to Sweden. it reduces accidents a lot, especially good on motorbikes.  I personally don't see a problem with driving round all day with your headlights on, not that I do!

Sounds like that you have a UK import with european spec lighting/switch. Doubt you can cure this unless yoiu change the switch/wiring to UK spec. You should refer the issue back to the supplying dealer/broker or find a friendly UK VW dealer who may be able to assist. Just got my GTI from a UK VW dealer and the Xenon lighting works fine fine. You no doubt saved a whole load of money though in buying an import !!!

Just a thought here but if you have the Highline computer, go through the lighting make sure all the settings are to UK imperial and fully read the Lighting and Vision section of your handbook manual to see if there are any specific variations to your own car .- this may or may not help, but that's all I can think of.

It only needs the computers software setting up to UK spec!

They took about 45 minutes

Bought the car from Motorhouse 2000, they even paid the £75 fee, superb service :grin:
