well i picked up my mk4 yesterday and to my utter delight.... only one key  so i wouldnt mind getting a spare just incase.  When i looked in my handbook there should have been a code thing i got aswel.... as car as i can see i dont have one.  Does this mean a 2nd key is pretty impossible?? How much can someone see this costing me?

Cheers!

John

Prices vary from £70 - over £100.  Might be worth ringing around your local dealers to find out and then go with the cheapest one

The cost is actually in the coding of the key and seeing as you don't have your SKC code (i think that's what it is called) then the dealer have to put in a request to either VW UK or VW Germany to obtain the code.

You could try getting a blank key off Ebay and having the dealer to cut and code it that way  :undecided: might save you a few quid  :undecided:

right, ive been to a cobblers near me after the woman on the front desk could not connect me to the parts department at the vw dealership.  He's getting software in a week or so that will allow him to do my keys for me.  He said at the absolute most it will be £150 but should be able to give me a better price when he gets the stuff in, this is with a full on vw key aswel.  Sound good?  And if i have a key b4 hand wont that be cut for another car already, plus would it really be that much cheaper if you have a key yourself? would imagine that being the cheap part and the cutting and coding being the expensive part?  The code is HAA.... theres an M or a W (not sure which way round is right) on there aswel blue.

cheers
