V6 4motion ABS and ESP light
« on: 25 September 2006, 12:58 »
Hi.

Can anyone throw any light on the problem I am experiencing.  Sometimes the ABS and ESP light come on with a bleep and (ABS FAULT) displaying on the dash.  The lights do not always come on, but when they do that stay on unit the ignition is switched off.  When I switch the ignition back on after 5-10 mins they are not on.  I have after market wheels which are 17" and I have been told that maybe the speed sensors are not set up to read the larger diameter wheels.  Has anyone found this to be true ?.

I have seen this fault on the forum but with no difinitive answer (if there is I haven't found it).  Please help as I fear I will be charged loads from VW

You need the VAG-COM software and an approriate cable mate.  You can use the trial version of the software, and purchase the cable off ebay for about 20 quid.

My front right ABS sensor is faulty, which prevents the ESP, ABS, ASR and EBD (did I miss any?)  from working, but I'm not really fussed as that allows me to 4 wheel drift the car.

if you're close to Hull, i'd be happy to read the ECU myself.

Si

Always keep a safe distance between you, and the vehicle infront ;-)

I had the ESP light staying on on my car (1.8 T). It was the speed sensor as you mentioned that was faulty. Had it chaged and now OK. Think the sensor was about 40 to 45 quid from VW.

Aren't the ABS sensors reading off the hub, and not the actual wheel?
