Just want to say I'm loving the forum so far, and wonder if I can tap the fountain of knowledge that is  "GolfGTI.co.uk". Being new to modding, I need some advice/review on some thing's I'd like to add to my VW.

Having driven diesel's  :nerd: for a few year's now, I finally got a Golf, and I'm very pleased with it. It's my second one actually. the first one is sadly   no longer with us. It was totally standard  
Lowered 40mm on standard 14" alloys
K&N cone filter
Alpine mp3 headunit
6" component's (200 watts rms) x4
2000 watt 4ch amp
10" Kicker comp sub's x2
600 watt 2ch amp

I now have a new toy   :grin: 
'M' reg Mk3 Tdi Metallic Grey on 14" steel's. 73,000 miles FVWSH. Mechanically it is sound, cam belt was done at 60,000   It is running 256mm solid disc's, so I was planning on getting these.

Suspension wise I'm confounded by the different setup's. I was recommended by a mate to get Jamex (who had spring/shocks on a mk1) to get these.

would it be a wise decision? From reading the forum, I gather that it can make the ride a little harsh, but I was planning on only doing the front first and seeing what it's like. Or would you suggest doing it all.

I was also planning on getting a Toad AI606 alarm, cause I don't like clifford and have heard mixed reports.

Your help with any of these point's would be greatly appreciated.

let's see if i can help...

Qusetion1.. eurocarparts sell some ate powerdiscs for the solid disc model's cheap too and mated to some ate pads (oe spec) or similar with braided hoses and your brakes will be transformed

Question2..Jamex have being making suspension kits for a good while so quality should be ok. have a look at fk coilover's too but only problem with cheaper coil over's is that they tend to seize so you can't adjust the ride height after a short while (not a problem once set and you don't want to adjust later)

Question3.. poly bushes do make the car more firm but i prefer new standard bushes as I did find poly one's a bit too stiff for my taste.. price look's cheap tho but I am guessing that the kit won't include pas rack bushes and i would let somebody else attempt the rear axle insert's as they are a swine to fix (search for related threads on here for details)

Thanks for your help mate.

Was planning on putting braided hoses on, but think will go for some kind of vented brake setup.

Will look at fk's, not planning on adjusting once it's set.

Gonna see how car feels once suspension done, then make decision about poly bushes I think.

Any more advice from anyone appreciated

one thing i didn't mention was I was informed that 256mm vented discs will fit with the original caliper's, all you need to do is fit the narrower brake pads for the mk3 caliper (they do have 2 width's). I was told this by a vw specialist when i owned a mk3 driver with solid discs and wanted an upgrade. I never tried it but i would start a new thread asking for info.....

Didn't know about the different width pads. Heard that info too. Was looking at the brakes the other day but was unsure if it would work.
