OMG - Help!

We need some help my GF's "Golf Gti - T 2000" Has some serious problems )-:

Her rear light went and her Dad (Big mistake he replaced this for her) Why he had the boot open to access this we are not sure if he sat on the boot lock, and we are unsure if he may of "done" something for this - Not my words my GF...  After we checked that the lights were working we went for a short drive into town and i noticed that the windows were not working and i thought nothing of this until we pulled up outside at home and i noticed that the boot warning light (that it was showing open was on) We checked the boot and found that it was locked then i tried the windows again and found that they were not working so i thought we should check lights/sunroof and the remote central locking and found these were not working either + the little light in the boot of the car that lights up when the boot is opened! We have checked the fuses and they are not showing signs of being blown? No burn marks etc! This is really worrying because if something like this happens i know it can cost quite a few "K".

So just to some up the remote central locking (We have to go to drivers side and lock the car and lock the boot with the key / the interior lights / the sunroof / and the little light in boot will not work! We are unsure if he has shorted out something or he has broken the clasp in the boot so this will not lock and thus the car thinks the doors are open and the lights etc etc will not work!

Please give us some advice because we are unsure to take it to a dealer and get ripped off...  Might post some pics of boot lock to this your thoughts!

if your windows etc aren't working I'm pretty certain it is a fuse.  HAve a look at the fuse cover and locate the fuse for the windows; I think its something like Fuse 15.  Replace that and it should work.

I blew the same fuse replacing the interior coutersy light  :embarassed: mine didn't show any signs of burning out either!

In future I'd disconnect the battery before tinkering with anything as I've noticed that the MKIV is all too quick to blow the fuses

So just to clarify, was it the rear lights that were being worked on rather than the boot light?

You mention that the indicator is showing on the dash that the rear hatch is open when it isn't. This would indicate a problem with the micro switch within the hatch handle and not something that would be disturbed during light replacement. Replacing the micro switch and latch assembly would most likely fix your rear door indicator problem but I'm not sure how these would be connected with the windows and sunroof - the windows for instance still work when the doors are open.

Might be best to investigate the light replacement again and check all connections.

Ok i have taken some pictures of the problem (if there is even a problem) with the door pin/lock...  Can someone tell me how to upload them into a msg because i dont see a attach option? And after they have could someone tell me if there door pin/lock should be like this on the boot.

Let us know your thoughts, We have checked fuses inside drivers door and changing these doesnt seem to make a difference!

This really does sounds like a fuse to me!! I tried wiring up my sub neon to the boot light  :embarassed: and I blew the fuse twice, it will cut out your windows, central locking and interior lights etc.. Cant remember what number the fuse was, but it was one of the very small fuses (i think) check in your handbook which sould of come with car as it has a guide as to what fuses do what..

Agree with fuse suggestion.. and that pic of the boot locking pin is normal.

Hey, Cheers again for input and advice...  We have checked the fuses and changed one over but it didnt seem to make a difference! Will get some pics of fuse box / layout in the car asap and post!

You are looking in the wrong place! The micro switch it mounted in the rear door (hatch) latch mechanisim not on the body mounted latch you have photod. You can access the switch by removing the door card trim from the rear hatch, its a small switch integrated into the latch. IIRC its got 3 wires, centre 1 is an earth connection, the others are - 1 for boot light and 1 for door open sensor.
