air filter ?
« on: 04 January 2004, 18:52 »
Hi there ive got an 83gti,with a exceptionally dirty standard air filter , i'm considering a k+n panel filter (?30), but i've seen advertised a pipercross cone type filter at ?85, anybody used either or both/is 85 quid really worth it ?

ps  just found site looks good   :D

Hi jezmon, I would fit the K&N pannel filter and mod the air box. You could fit the cone type, but it will be a lot of work. To mod the air box, when you have the upper part off, remove the lower part of the housing and cut away the front of the housing where the pipe to the front fits (loose the pipe). Also on mine, I cut a lot of the plastic from the bottom of the box to let it flow more air in  ;).

that isn't stricly the best way of gaining performance just cutting out the bottom of the box !

if you can raise the box up from the chassis leg and cut out a bigish size hole to push a piece off big diameter flexi hose through and then feed the hose to the front grill or as close to outside the engine bay as possible.

oh yeah and change to a performance panel filter.

Nice one  ;) getting the co checked and adjusted after fitting a free flowing filter or modding the air box is often overlooked.

The co shouldn't need adjusting really, as the extra air flow will cause the airflow meter plate to sit a bit higher, hence more fuel added, job done!
