rambling thoughts of a blithering idiot...
« on: 17 September 2006, 22:58 »
wondering my merry way to cornwall in my 1600 mk 1.  Saw a RS6 earlier in my mirrors, couple of lucky over takes, no RS6, ooooo twin lane bit, bollocks stuck behind somat, RS comes past, with new shape a4 2.0tdi welded to it's bumper, mmm maybe i''ll select third...ding ding ding, fouth.........ding ding ding fifth...a4 woose's out, catching the RS6 like a blackbird at full chat, then he glances in his mirror, drops it a gear and the gap equalls, then starts to grow... then ding eh?wtf was that? ding ding ding ding ding ahhh, that'll be the limiter... in fifth.  RS6 dissapears like i've jmped on the brakes.  B*LL*CKS!!!  Whilst in Cornwall, they car was amazing, B roads at night, nothing came close, there were a few pretenders, but nothing was quicker, enough power, low weight, good brakes and blinding headlights, I was the daddy for those few miles.  On the way home, new shape MK5 on the motorway, I pull over at ahem mph and he crawls past, I pull out behind him, foot still berried and he only makes about 300yrds before I hit that bloody limiter again!!!
To day I was out and about and I came across a MK1 in the process of being stripped because the owner had found a better shell, (this one is damn near perfect?!?!)
I have access to a syncro rear end
I have access to a Rover V8
I have the nessacery skills
I maybe able to find the money
Can you see where this is going?
Can you please give me reasons why not to build 300+ ponies into a rear drive street sleeper.
Then I can go out hunting.....

Cheers for reading the dribble

Mark

I have tuned all but the t*ts off of it, apart from throttle bodies and custom fuel & igntion maps pretty much everything I can think of has been done... everything!!! (laughs manicaly, but secretly crying after realising how much this has cost him)

if you got a good enough engine then you can hit the limiter in 5th neaty...i let off in mine when it went hairing to red line, its a bit too keen to find the limiter at them speeds

your mk1 sounds like a good un, you planning on doing this to that one or finding another shell to use? be a shame to split up a 1600 gti
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

Hi

I have had it on the rollers, @ TSR, dunno how good they are, rummors are they have gone down hill?!?!  It was making a lowley 110bhp@the rev limiter, before I moved the limiter up another 700rpm, and it fly into that.  Yes I know 110 sounds pants, but it is an old engine (tech wise)  it is only 1600 and the gearbox may not  be as tight as it was 25 years ago (it has been rebuilt), but I have been told I am looking at around 145-150bhp at the crank, not bad for nearly 2K... eek!!! (working on race cars at all hours, pumping money into a shell for 2½ years)

I have been thinking about the knackering a perfectly serviceable MK1 shell (a crime for which all shold be punshied)  So how about a Scricco or a Golf C (only mention the c 'cos the engine mounts are in the wrong place and other bit's and pieces make it not a GTi)

At work we have a vauxhall vectra 2.8 V6 Turbo lump, with bent rods (crossing a Ford a smidge quick did we sir?)  Totaly scrap (you can not get bits for it from Vauxhall until the unit is 1 year old... vauxhall like to test all motors on the public, if they go pop, they replace them, so they can see what went wrong... seems they've forgotton this one)

So whatdayreckon? Skyrocket or Mk1 shell???

Ohhhh that reminds me, any one got any quater light frames, mine have strangley dissapeared, someone, not me has thrown them out thinking they were scrap bits of metal...BA*TARD!!!

Cheers
Mark
