Mr 6 - your help please!

Mr 6 (golfvr6), as you may be aware i have come to respect and admire your vast knoweldge on all things mk3!  ;D

My VAG mechanic friend has moved to a new garage and although it is lovely to use he is not the enthusiast i am and as a result no longer gets excited about my car!  :( I will still make use of his plush Audi facilities, however i have a proposition to make:

My car is due for its 60k service and needs all its disks and pads doing too. As advised in previous posts i'm sticking to all standard kit! I have just done the clutch and am very happy with the result. My car is beautiful (see my user gallery) and i am thinking a fellow enthusiast with lots of mk3 experience would be able to not only help me out with the 60k service and the brakes but be able to give her a little drive, check her over encase i have missed anything and generally tweak a beautifull car to drive to her full potential!  ;D

I live near Dorking, Surrey so my proposition Mr 6, if you are up for it is to spend some time with you in the comming weekends! I hope you will accept this smallish project so that my car is 100% mechanically tight for when i start doing all the interior in the summer. Of course i will supply all the resources and refreshments along with a strong hand and will make sure you are compensated for your time! lol! Plus i think it would be great to hook up, ain't that many mk3 enthusiasts in my neck of the woods!

Cheers mate, please PM me or reply below!  ;D  ;D  ;D

Well... I think all is good but it would be great if someone else who has driven a few of these cars was to drive it and give their opinion. Think the gearbox linkage could be a bit smoother with the right adjustment and some grease! plus... yeh i wanna do the brakes and it needs an oil change. Was thinking break fluid and gear box oil also - dunno what else wants doing at 60k???

I am planning the interior revamp for the summer and later in the year, say october time i was thinking all new polly bushes! But for now i just want to get it mechanically A1. I don't have loads of cash and i am hoping you will provide guidance as i'm quite mechanically minded, i just don't have alot of experience with these cars and think someone in the know would be able to get the setup better than i can with guess work! Would appreciate you giving her a drive and just saying where you think i could adjust things to gain improvement!

Any labour time you spend on my car would be paid at an agreed rate! Tis up to you. Cheers!

Gear linkage needs a jig for accurate adjustment, probably dealer only, maybe a basic check can be done.
Brake fluid and gearbox would be worth doing.
Has the cambelt and tensioner been done?

Yeh all belts (cam, steering, aux/fan) were done in the summer!

Gotta do brakes and needs annual service in next few weeks or as soon as possible. I presume you have done brakes on a mk3 before. I have not, and although i recon it can't be that hard it always nice to have someone tell you all the tips and shortcuts!

Is there a fuel filter that needs changing? Any fueling bits normally checked in service, i dunno?

I think car is tip top really but we did have the gear box out a month ago for the clutch change. The new clutch and cable is bedded in a treat but the box is not as smooth as it was before. No probs changing gear but it doesn't slide through the gears as fluid as it did before. This is just something i thought the trained mk3 nut maybe able to sort with a few turns of the spanner in the right place - i dunno, could be wrong.

Few rattles and squeaks else where! Maybe i am being to much of the perfectionist and am trying to get the car tighter than it possibley can be after 6 years and 60k!!!

What gearbox fluid are you using?
i pressume you marked up the gear linkage when removing??
Brakes on mk3 are the pretty much the same as on mk2, except for abs on the rears.
I have fitted new discs to the front and calipers on the back of my car. i still have the rear discs waiting to be fitted!
