« on: 16 September 2006, 15:39 »
Hi there everyone this is my first time on here so be gentle, I have just bought my Girlfriend a MK1 Karman GTi Cabriolet on an '84 plate. It is currently fitted with the White Tarantula wheels I have just bought some refurbished 15" BBS RAs for it, what tyres can I fit to them with the standard suspension I dont get the profiling thing(i.e. So they dont scuff the arches everytime she hits a speedbump) Thanks

Welcome to the site. If you want to have comfort and looks then I'd have to say 195/50/15s.
......now officially dubless.

195/45/15s would look better if it has been lowered but you would also sacrafice some comfort. This is a quality site and will explain the wheel and tyre sizes etc.

Edit: Whoops, it would probably help if I put the link up. http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html?menu.html&tyre_bible.html

Depends how much you want to spend. I got a Streetline kit from Euro car Parts for about £120 18 months ago, it had Ventura lowering springs and Bilstein gas shocks, it's quite a harsh ride and lowers about 40mm but for the money it was a bargain and the car looks so much better now. As for DIY or not, that depends on if you can do it or not, I paid about £80 to have mine fitted but if you do it yourself you'll need a spring compressor.

Here's a couple of pics.

Before lowering.

After lowering.

Not an exact comparison, but you get the idea.
