Power Boost Valve
« on: 13 September 2006, 20:06 »
I have a mk3 2.0 16v, standard apart from a K&N panel filter. I was thinking of putting on a power boost valve.  Does this increase performance at all? What does it do for fuel economy? Is there anything else anyone can recommend to increase performance? Cheers

from what i understand they're a waste of money.

fit some 70mm cold air feed tubing to the airbox if you haven't already.

some say drilling the front and wing side of the bottom half of the airbox increases performance. (some disagree)

fit a good cat back exhaust (milltek are highly rated)

sports cat if you can afford it.

AMD or similar remap

All the above would probably be under a grand and give maybe 170 bhp.

dont underestimate the benefit if a fse power boost valve because they will make the car/throttle feel more responsive but it aint gonna give you any more bhp

What are power boost valves?
How much are they?
Are they easy to fit?
Cheers

They cost around £100 and are not a diy fit. You need to get them set up correctly by somebody with experience.

Just seen a mod on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-MK3-GTI-2-0L-16V-ABF-performance-Chip-8HP_W0QQitemZ320030551559QQihZ011QQcategoryZ32094QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Anyone know if these work or are any good? I want a fairly cheap mod to make my car go that little bit quicker. I have a K&N panel filter, sounds good nut no real performance gain. There are so many mods I dont know what is the best to do first. Any help greatly appreciated

Boost valves work on the return to tank fuel line. What they do is raise the pressure so that more fuel is ready to go into the cylinders, sorry I mean the fuel is at a higher pressure and you dont have to wait to increase fuel input via the injectors. A non boosted system has a very slight lag because fuel is allowed to return to the tank.
I have one on my other car and its true it does make it more responsive, but no extra power.
