bad vr6 day........
« on: 13 September 2006, 19:46 »
well went to work this morning.... in torrential rain... fine....

was hot hot at dinner so thought id sit in car with aircon on.... started but wouldnt tick over, was popping and banging..... warmed it up and went round the block, died a few times then came to life, thought it had gone away....

came to home time.... pop pop bang splutter..... took off to find dizzy cap worn the carbon brush away in the centre... so stretched the spring enough to get me to halfrauds...

they dont stock dizzy caps for vr6s... tw@ts..... so i kindly borrowed a carbon brush or 2 from some of the dizzy caps they had....  bunged em in mine in the car park and its seemed better but still pants...

managed to get the car home, then started to investigate...

hose from front bank fuel pressure regulator split (vacume one), so fixed that, and found who ever fitted dizzy cap in past had put it on 180 degrees wrong way round.. key was not in slot... so drew a sketch of where leads went then turned 180 degress... started and run better but doesnt feel 100% gonna check plugs and leads tomorrow if its a b!tch to start... so guess ill be goin to work on me gsxr tomorrow....

id only put me private plate on the vr6 on monday... i swear that things jinxed... i put it on my mk4 20v and she drops a cambelt and stuffs the engine... i bung it on the vr6 and she plays up.....

pants day havin some well earned beer and chill time now

well drove it to work spluttering and lumpy as fook...

had another look in daylight and cant see anything fell off/out of place.... this has got to be something simple... dont wanna splash loads as it didnt cost me loads... plugs/leads/cap and rotor arm are gona cost me the best part of £80.... will be peeved if i spend this  and it dont improve things.....

warmed it up for 20 mins before i left work then thrapped the old girl... after 3 miles it seemed to come back to its former self... but im not riskin it... will goto work on me gsxr what ever the weather tomorrow....

ill leave it sat on the drive for a day or too as punishment for being a tw@t.... and see if its any better...then the ordering of bits will commence... or ill drive it to louth vw and let the boys there see if they can diagnose the prob so i can sort it.....

feckin vw's dont you just luv em...... never had this prob with the mr2 i run for the last 3 months....

any ideas as to the rough running etc would be great....

Could be the coil mate. They are known for being a bit dodgey.

well left it from thursday night to sunday morning and its started up fine and run ok, did over 100 miles in it on sunday and was fine... so im guessin that rain on last wed morning got in somewhere and upset it... so its gonna be rubber glove over the dizzy cap, round every socket/join/plug and im gonna remove all the soggy leaves from under the scuttle panel near the ecu and waterproof that....

got new plugs/leads/dizzy cap etc on order but need extra protection hehe

yeah there new to me too rob, ill sus em out though,!!! only another two cylinders extra to what im used too so cant be too hard!!, think mines deffo down to a lead/dizzy prob, still waiting for delivery of my bits as no fooker round here stocks owt for a vr6!!

its been ok since last sunday but in the wet yesterday/today its been missin on one pot, so im putting it down to the leads/plugs/cap etc, as its no where like it was last week, mine was poppin and bangin last week, ill let you know what its like when i got em and changed em

mind you drove a steady 60mph home today and got 28mpg on the old fuel computer and that was with the aircon on  it got 31 mpg yesterday lol

still goes down to low 20's or less when playing mr heavy foot
