i looked at the vxr in the run up to getting the golf

i also looked at all the other similarly priced cars, megane 225, focus st, astra vxr, leon fr

but as crazily fast as the vxr was and as well mannered as the st was the golf sits somewhere right in the middle

the megane is unexciting, and the leon fr..well its cheap

get the golf gti dsg, its faster then the vxr astra, the renault 225 from a standing start. look at yourtube.com under golf gti dsg v manual gti video. Not sure about the focus st in a straight line, but 2 major things to consider,1 is depreciation and the other 2, prepare to break the bank fueling the ST.honestly think hard b4 putting your pen to paper, a friend of mine has got an orange st2,  and regrets getting it over the golf.

Hey Phil, would you mind tracking down that video, I can't locate it searching for this name?

Yes the DSG did out drag the manual, but do you reckon those 2 japs can actually drive??? There can't be much in it - both have the same engine.

Truth is I'm starting to turn to ticking the DSG box on the options list but don't think I can find another £1330 that easily.

haggle mate, are u doing finance or buying outright, remember if its from a dealer, make them aware that you can go to"that dealer" and they will offer you that car with dsg yada yada, you will get in the car you want in your budget. Dont let the stealer think hes your ownly option. i had 4 dealers across hampshire fighting for my £, it does pay off, trust me,  dsg is worth it, you wont be disapointed

Guess it depends do you want to drive in a straight line or zig-zag every where? If you want the extra power have it re mapped.
03 210 Seat LCR. Badger5 V2.2TIP, Fordge 007p, Wellycooler, Quaife ATB LSD, Nuespeed ARB's, KW Clubsports, 330mm discs, 3" turbo back de cat and still on the standard map!

i dont think theres a problem when remapping with dsg, the r32 has same bearbox with higher horsepower, so that sholdnt be a worry , although if id spent £20000+ on a car , i sure as hell WOULDNT chip it just yet , you could invalidate your vw warranty, + if you prang it, and dont declare to the insurance company youve modified it,(which sends your premium rocketing anyways) is it really worth it.
