Replacing the horn?
« on: 12 September 2006, 10:07 »
I'd like to replace the horn on my VR6..  Nothing musical or special, just one that doesn't sound like it was nicked off a scooter.

Another buddy of mine (also a Mk3 VR6) also wants to do this.

Am I correct in assuming I can just get a horn from virtually any car and wire it in?  if so, it's going to be a fun few hours wandering around a scrappy with a battery trying out all the horns to find something that sounds a bit better   I guess all cars just have a horn that needs 12V, right?

Yeah your pretty much right. Halfords do a dual air horn kit that packs a punch. Bout £10 i think

That's what I Thought, cheers.

I'll have a look at the halfords one, but I don't want something that sets off all the car alarms.  Just something that sounds a bit less... gay.

I have this lovely throaty roar coming from under the bonnet, then when I push the horn it's *peep*... It's embarassing really. :undecided:
