« on: 11 September 2006, 22:34 »
Hi everyone im new to this forum and its my first post,

Could you guys please gimme your views on a Mk4 golf 1.9tdi?

Im looking into getting one as salvage and repairing it its a first car, but i can get free insurance via my employer, so its not really a problem insurance wise.

I just wonderd what they were like performance wise?

ive been reading up and they come in 90,130 and 150bhp right?

Any info is appreciated!  Please dont judge because of age aswel.. lol

Thanks in advance people!

Scott.

You get 90, 100, 110, 115, 130 & 150 bhp models, some are PD engines (115, 130 & 150) and have the 6 speed gearbox. I have got a 130 myself which has excellent performance but with good fuel economy, a great engine with incredible torque.

Have a look at www.parkers.co.uk in their reviews section, it lists all the technical data on the various Golf models.

Thanks for the reply, Do you have any idea how much i could pick up a mk4 golf 1.9TDI at around a 98 plate?  Or any idea how much one would cost as salvage?

Thanks again.

Scott.

i think the gt's came out later. have you thought about a 1.8t as they seem to be the most common that go as salvage.

Yeah, the 1.8T is the petrol.  Its quality although, to be honest, as I'm a little older, I probably woulda prefered the TDi.  You can get a similar increase in power for the same amount of cash in upgrades.

But then its up to you.  Do you want the black reek and tractor noise as your blowing away that saxo?  Well, thats all personal opinion.  I'll tell you what though, anyone got a similar age (1998) and similar mileage (90k) GT TDi (130+ BHP) interested in a swap, I'll go for it ;)

Dunno much about prices or whatever, but I value mine at around £4000

Yeah i couldnt think of anything better!!  I've heard they're quite nippy?

Its going to be my first car im 16, 17 in october and my dad thinks its a good idea because they hold there money well.  You look at a 1998 pug 306 Diesel and you could probably pick one up for £1k whereas like you said you'd sell yours for about £4k!  So ya, i really want a GT TDI 1.9 mk4 i was just asking around to see what prices were like.

I love golfs! and i dont mind that it will be a diesel because the insurance company my dad deals with will only insure me on a 1.6 petrol max, but with diesels its different, and he said it should be ok we are ringing up though to double check.  Salvage will be fine though because can repair it ourselves and get parts cheap, should be good!

Do you recon it would be ok to do a 100mm drop and stick some 17" on it?

Thanks,

Scott.
