What Tyres For My Golf? NEWBIE Alert
« on: 11 September 2006, 15:58 »
Hey all,

I'm going to the local car place to get some new 18" wheels fitted on my golf! Basically I really don't have a clue about it all and have been learning thanks to the help of some people on here.

Anyway I phoned up the place and enquired about the new RS4 rims which they said they can order in for me and they asked me what tyres I'd be looking for... basically I didn't have a clue...

He said that the cheaper tyre would be komos (something like that anyway) is what they usually use and altogether (including fitting) this would cost about £700 inc VAT.

I asked about the more expensive tyres and he mentioned Yokohoma and Goodyear..

So I know the rims I want but what abuot the tyres.. is it really that important... what would be the best to get? Cheers!

tyres are very important mate; they keep you on the road after all!!

i guess it's all down to personal choice but most people will recommend Goodyear Eagle F1, Bridgestone RE720, Michelins, Toyo's etc.

if you can afford it definiately go for a top brand name as you will have better grip and all weather performance along with long life and improved fuel consumption.

Avoid Yoko's if you want em to last. Awesome grip but soft compound means you'll eat em up in 12 months of heavey right foot action.

I'm pretty sure that Kuhmos are made by Yoko  :undecided:
The last set I had didn't last very long, just like Yokos...

I'm a fan of Toyo's myself but a lot of people say Goodyear Eagle F1's are hard to beat. All depends on your budget really!
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!

Go for the most expensive tyres you can afford - they are the only thing between the car and the road!

Personally I reckon Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 are the best.

Mk IV GTI had Bridgestones which were later changed to Goodyear F1 D3.  They did the business.  MkV GTI has Continentals which I am in the process of changing for Goodyears.  They are the tyre of choice for me.

Mate, dont buy the new RS4 rims - they will make your car look common.
