Golf 1.8T stuttering under acceleration
« on: 11 September 2006, 12:18 »
I have noticed that my Golf GTI 1.8T stutters slightly under acceleration.  It feels a bit like the engine is holding back, but it disappears as the revs rise.  It's most noticable when it's cold or damp and normally occurs in second gear at low revs.  It's far from being serious, but it is still a minor irritation that I'd like to sort out if possible.  Any ideas?

Russ.

Possibly the MAF; very common failure

about £70 on exchange from the dealers.

You could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to remove stored parimeters(make sure youve got your radio code) and then remove the maf connection and see how it runs. if it runs better than or not much difference with the maf connected more than likely it needs replacing.

could be the maf, always worth a check, as mentioned it is a common fault, but if its only happening on cold starts i'd say let the car warm up in the mornings... its not a must but it is better to let the turbo warm up/down...

hi ya mate you e mailed me but it wont let me reply through pm  :undecided: i have just replaced the maf and boost control valve not sure where it is as jabba sport fitted it while i waited. its stopped the problems at the moment but still not sure its the underlying fault but as for the stuttering mine does it too untill its fully warmed up.

fear is temporary, regret lasts forever...
