It's a high pressure spray from what I gather done at the dealership with a ten year guarantee.  I've had the Auto Glym treatment done on both my previous Gti and on the R32 now and I have to say that it keeps the cars looking like they've been freshly polished.  When you wash and then chamois the car dry it comes up like new and also after rain you can see the big droplets of water sitting on the bodywork - nice!  It is recommended however to polish your car twice a year - with Auto Glym products of course to top it up.  My car lives outside so I think with incontinent birds flying around crapping everywhere it's worth it.  Infact I've just ordered a Honda Civic 2.2CDTi Sport ( oil burner ) for my wife and I've gone for Honda's polishing deal although it's not Auto Glym but called Jewelultra Diamondbrite and it comes with a six  :smiley:year guarantee.

I didn't get it on my met black golf, but I know someone who did, also on a met black car, and I can't tell any difference in appearance or resistance to dirt.  I think it's just too expensive (I was quoted about £275) for what it may achieve.

Look after the pennies peeps

Here's a link explaining what Autoglym does -
http://www.clean-image.co.uk/paintsealant/autoglym_lifeshine.htm

You should either get your dealer to throw it in free, or negoiate a very cheap price, as it doesn't cost them very much to apply.
Some forums such as  http://www.detailingworld.co.uk  will explain the best methods to care for your car, do a search there for lifeshine.
They'll probably just recommend you buy the Autoglym lifeshine kit off ebay. it's the same as what the dealers use, and a fraction of the cost. you'll need about a day to apply it though...
Here's a link to just one of the many kits on ebay currently - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/autoglm-lifeshine_W0QQitemZ290028135378QQihZ019QQcategoryZ72201QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I had the autoglym lifeshine on my black GTI and I'm glad I did. My mate bought a TT just before me and he struggles to get insect remains off it even when using insect removing products, i just wash mine with the autoglym shampoo they give you as part of the lifeshine pack. Washing my car is so easy and, as it's been said before, it comes up like brand new.

I was in two minds whether to have it done like you but I thought whats another £299 out of the £21k i'd just spent. I'd have it done again and my mate wishes he had too.

can this be applied to an older car or does the paintwork have to be new?

I just looked at the ebay link, its only £9.99, which makes me wonder how it can be so cheap if it retails for £200+?

Has anyone brought autoglym from ebay?

the majority of the cost I assume is the labour charges for applying the products.  I would have thought its a good 2-3 hour job to ensure the products dry and cure properly.

the cost of the the products the dealer would get at trade prices or better.

The ebay price is about right. Check out the link to Detailing World and search for "Lifeshine" many people there have bought kits, but IIRC it takes a full day to apply, and you do have to be carefull. The spray protector for the seats and carpets needs to be applied in a well ventilated area. there's a big risk of being overcome by the fumes!
Read up on it carefully, and let us know what you decide to do.
